Duck-A-Thon at the Huntington Beach Pier

Huntington Beach Pier festivalThis weekend, May 13-15 2011, the 19th Annual Duck-A-Thon Festival takes place at the Huntington Beach Pier and Pier Plaza.

The event actually starts tonight with wine tasting at the pier. But the fun Duck-A-Thon event takes place Saturday and Sunday. Although the event is free to spectators, the event is a fundraiser for the Huntington Beach Community Clinic. So they have a creative way to raise funds, instead of a regular raffle, they sell small yellow rubber duckies!

Then on Saturday at 3pm, they toss all the rubber duckies, about 4,000 of them, over the side of the pier into the ocean! As they float ashore, volunteers pick them up. The first 60 duckies to reach the shore win prizes for the owners! Pretty neat huh?

I’ll be there taking pictures, I don’t want to miss this one! (UPDATE: Photo from Saturday’s Duck-A-Thon).
