Duck-a-Thon 2014 Festival in Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach

The 22th Annual Duck-a-Thon Festival in Huntington Beach runs Friday through Sunday, May 16 – 18, 2014.

This three day fundraiser is known for it’s spectacular dump of thousands of rubber duckies over the side of the Huntington Beach Pier.  On Saturday, each duck is “purchased” by supporters (my wife and I purchase one each year) then wait to see which ones arrive at the shore first! (The waves push them in, they float so all are picked up).

Duck-a-Thon is a fundraiser for AltaMed’s Huntington Beach Community Clinic which helps thousands of uninsured and underserved patients in the community.

Anyone can come to the festival and look at the tossing of the duckies and if you like you too can purchase one prior to the event. Prizes are given to the owners of the ducks that arrive first on shore!

Then the following day on Sunday, they do it again but this time it’s for corporate sponsors only. If you want to see the bigger event with the most ducks it’s on Saturday.

Note that the Huntington Beach Pier event (dropping of the ducks and visiting the vendor booths) is free for spectators so even though you don’t purchase a duck it’s still fun to watch. And for those wondering if the ducks pollute the ocean, nope all the ducks are accounted for, as they float and are retrieved by many volunteers of the event.
