Here are the main admission and food discounts, including those on opening weekend for the 2014 Los Angeles County Fair. They expect to have more than 1.5 million visitors through its run of Friday August 29 – September 28!
Then I’ll share ways you can get free tickets to the concerts too!
So lets start with the opening weekend.
LA County Fair Opening Day Deals for 2014
As most of you have found out already, this year the LA County Fair has decided to not offer the $1 admission on opening day or other similar deals that were given last year.
You can see the Facebook comment that confirmed it HERE.
So you’ll need to pay the regular admission prices which are:
||Weekends & Labor Day
|Child, ages 6-12
And these are the hours for opening weekend:
On Friday, August 29, 2014 the Fair opens at 3 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 30 – 10 a.m.-Midnight

LA County Fair deals
However, they do continue to have some of the same discount offers listed below. You can find more information about them HERE.
- Costco Fair Savings Pack (Great deal for a family of 4)
- Discount days for specific Southern California College Students
See list of colleges and print your coupon HERE. You’ll need the printed coupon.
Note: You can download a pdf file which you can print and it has a map of the fair grounds plus all the deals listed above along with the college days and concerts so you don’t need to be hunting them down on the LA County Fair website. Just print them and go. It can be found HERE.
Special Tip: Want free 2014 Los Angeles County Fair Concert tickets?
Most people are unaware of this, but a few free general admission tickets to the End of Summer Concert Series at the L.A. County Fair are made available at the ticket kiosk located on Rose Lane at 3 p.m. on the day of the concerts. All are first come first served and each person requesting a free ticket must be present. Please note that concert tickets are separate from fair admission, you must still pay for admission to the fair. You can read more about it on the bottom page of the Map pdf file from the LA County Fair.

The 110th Huntington Beach 4th of July celebration is this Friday, 2014. With the largest 4th of July parade in the western United States and one of the most beautiful fireworks shows you’ll ever see over the beach.
July 4th, 2014 is on a Friday, so the party will be starting early this weekend in HB. I can’t emphasize enough that getting there early is the key to a fun day. The forecast calls for temperatures in the mid 70’s so it will be a great day to be at the beach.
It all starts with a parade and ends with a spectacular fireworks show over the ocean.
Below is a short list of events happening Huntington Beach on 4th of July and the weekend.
– Huntington Beach, July 4th, 2014
- Lake Park Breakfast 6:30am – 11:00am
- Surf City 5K Run & Fitness Expo 7:00am – 12:00pm
- 110th Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade 10:00am – 12:00pm
- 3-Day Pier Plaza Festival July 4 – July 6
- Pier Plaza Entertainment July 4 – July 6
- Fireworks Over the Ocean – 9:00pm July 4 ONLY
Plus the entire July 4th weekend at Pier Plaza you’ll find a large Festival with local merchants, food and entertainment.
As for the two main events, the 4th of July Parade and later the Fireworks Show, my only recommendation is to arrive early in the morning for the parade then stay at the beach all day until 9pm when the fireworks show starts. Finding parking will be challenging if you arrive later in the day.
Parking at Huntington Beach on 4th of July
Most people who have never attended the 4th of July in Huntington Beach are surprised at just how difficult parking can be. It’s not because there aren’t any, not so. It’s simply due to the extreme number of people, I’m talking about several hundred thousand! Yup, it’s a big party.
So arrive very early, I’m talking about 7 a.m. early (or earlier). Beach parking is $15 for the full day, or if you find street metered parking it’s $1.50 per hour so take lots of coins, only a few take credit cards. Or your final option is to park in the residential area that surrounds downtown Huntington Beach.
If you arrive after 9 a.m., be prepared to walk several blocks to the beach. Most people are there all day up to the fireworks.
Finally, don’t think that the only thing to do is lay out at the beach. No, there’s lots more than that. You can go surfing, visit downtown and shop the many stores or eat any of the many restaurants. It’s a fun family atmosphere so take advantage of our great Southern California weather!
The 22th Annual Duck-a-Thon Festival in Huntington Beach runs Friday through Sunday, May 16 – 18, 2014.
This three day fundraiser is known for it’s spectacular dump of thousands of rubber duckies over the side of the Huntington Beach Pier. On Saturday, each duck is “purchased” by supporters (my wife and I purchase one each year) then wait to see which ones arrive at the shore first! (The waves push them in, they float so all are picked up).
Duck-a-Thon is a fundraiser for AltaMed’s Huntington Beach Community Clinic which helps thousands of uninsured and underserved patients in the community.
Anyone can come to the festival and look at the tossing of the duckies and if you like you too can purchase one prior to the event. Prizes are given to the owners of the ducks that arrive first on shore!
Then the following day on Sunday, they do it again but this time it’s for corporate sponsors only. If you want to see the bigger event with the most ducks it’s on Saturday.
Note that the Huntington Beach Pier event (dropping of the ducks and visiting the vendor booths) is free for spectators so even though you don’t purchase a duck it’s still fun to watch. And for those wondering if the ducks pollute the ocean, nope all the ducks are accounted for, as they float and are retrieved by many volunteers of the event.

This year K1 Speed has a special discount code for Saturday and Sunday (general admission) of the 2014 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Simply use discount code: K1Speed40
And get General Saturday Admission for $30 and/or Sunday General Admission tickets for $35! Nice.
Click HERE to find your tickets then enter the discount code.
You can also see the article over at K1 Speed as well.
The discount codes will only work for General Admission on Saturday April 12 and Sunday April 13, 2014 and must be purchased online through the link above.
Like all of the offers for that event, the codes seem to run out quickly so if you are planning to go, it’s best to get your tickets early.
Someone asked earlier if we are providing these discount codes, no, these are given out to the sponsors for promotion, which they then give out. As in this case with K1 Speed. We are only letting our readers know about the deals they posted because…well this is a Great Deal site!
Also, if you plan to go on Friday, don’t forget this deals too.
It’s that time of the year again, yup, the annual Huntington Beach Kite Party! Each year The Kite Connection hosts this popular and very cool “kite party”, where professional kite flyers show off their skills next to the Huntington Beach Pier.
This isn’t a kite festival, this is truly a kite party!
My wife and I love going to this free (for spectators) event each year. The dates for this one is:
Saturday and Sunday, March 8 & 9, 2014.
The main area is located on the north side of the HB Pier. So grab your beach chair and head out to watch some really cool kite flying.
Spectators can come and watch the pros either from the sand, pier or the seating area facing the beach on the north side. Plus, they will also be providing kite flying lessons in addition to selling kites.
This is a great family event and the forecast for that weekend calls for clear skies and excellent weather. Nice!
You can find more information about this event at the SurfCityUSA website.
Plus you can see photos from last year’s event at OCPix.
Here’s a great free deal for the entire family, on Saturday, January 25, 2014, twenty local LA and OC museum venues will offer free admission as part of the annual Museums Free-for-All program.
It’s organized by MuseumsLA.org, it’s a great resource for anyone who is looking for information about Southern California Museums all on one site.
Here’s the list of museums participating in the Jan. 25 free day:
The 2013 LA Auto Show is Nov. 22-Dec 1, 2013, and I for one love this event. Below are the 2013 LA Show free discount admission ticket information.
Plus I’ve added a few tips to make your trip more enjoyable along with some photos I personally took during last year’s event.
2013 LA Auto Show Discount Tickets
The show runs from Friday, November 22-Dec 1, 2013, and the first discount offer is for Friday November 22, 2013. Get $4 off general admission (use discount code AUTOTRADER – price after discount=$8) if you purchase your ticket online. Kids 5 yrs old and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
2013 LA Auto Show Free Tickets
This year there doesn’t seem to be any sponsor offering free tickets that we are aware of. However, you will see some online radio, tv or local sites offering free tickets in raffles, but of course these are in limited quantity and it’s more of “winning” the tickets. So the best option is to take advantage of the discount I mentioned earlier.
For all other days besides opening day, it’s best to purchase your tickets at the door rather than online, due to the $2 online processing fee.
UPDATE: I just got back from the LA Auto Show, read my review and see currents photos here.
My LA Auto Show Tips
- Crowds are less and admission prices (with discounts) are less on weekdays.
- Arrive early, parking is available at the LA Convention Center.
- Park a few blocks away and save in parking.
- Expect to walk a lot, there’s a reason why this show is 10 days long, it is BIG!
- Food at the convention center is boring, so walk over to LA Live, there’s more choices. Or better yet, save your money and eat before you arrive then after your stay drive away from this overpriced area and save.
- Leave your beverages and food at home, they don’t allow outside food to be taken inside the show.
